I’m definitely more of an online shopper than an in store shopper. I find it so much easier to be able to see all of my options and have it show up at my door. I’ve rounded up my favorite tips that I use to save money. Whether you’re shopping for fun things like clothes or shoes, or the essentials so you won’t have to leave your house, these are the tips I swear by.
Newsletter Email Sign Up
One of the best ways to be in the know of sales and offers is to sign up for newsletters from your favorite retailers. Often, you will get a special discount sent to you for signing up.
Follow on Social Media
Follow your favorite brands on social media. It’s likely that they will post any sales or current discounts being offered. Sometimes they will even share special discount codes that are only offered to their followers.
Search for Coupons
Oftentimes, if you do a quick google search, you will be able to find coupon codes. My favorite place to find coupons is Retail Me Not. It’s one of the first places I check for available discount codes.
Rakuten (formerly know as Ebates) is my go-to for saving money. You don’t actually save money up front, but they give you cash back for a percentage of your purchase. It’s completely free to sign up and such an easy way to put money back in your pocket. So many of my favorite retailers use Rakuten such as Sephora, Express, and Shopbop. It’s one extra little step, that actually saves so much money. All of the retailers offer different percentages of cash back, but there are also times that they do double cash back, and its also a great place to search for available discount codes as well. I couldn’t recommend it enough!
For any item you want to purchase, just do a quick google search for the product and you will see all the retailers who carry it. There may be different prices, or you may find that another retailer offers free shipping or a discount code that makes it cheaper than your original option.
Download your favorite retailer’s app. Some offer only in app discounts, coupons, or carside pickup options. Target has one of the best shopping apps because they offer coupons that can be redeemed in store or online, and they offer online shopping with carside pickup. Nordstrom also offers carside pickup, and Shopbop offers a discount on your first app order.
Order Online, Pick Up in Store
There are often times that prices are cheaper or there are other discount codes that are better online than in store. If you don’t want to wait for shipping, see if its available in store, and order online for pick up.
Sign Up for Free Shipping
There are some retailers who offer a flat rate yearly fee for free shipping on all orders. This is great if there’s a retailer you frequently order from to cut shipping cost. Most notably Amazon does this with their prime membership, but Sephora offers a $15 yearly fee for free shipping, and Asos offers a $19 yearly fee for free shipping.
Use retailers who offer perks/rewards programs. Some offer free shipping on everything, or at a certain amount, or others offer a point system to earn discounts. This works great for retailers you frequently purchase from.
Stack coupons for deeper discounts if it’s possible. Use coupons or rewards during sales to get more bang for your buck.
Add To Cart
Add items to your cart, then wait. Sometimes they will follow up with you through email and offer a discount code to complete your purchase. This doesn’t always work, but its worth a shot if you’re able to wait a little while.
Wait for Annual Sales
If you have a favorite retailer who you know does annual sales, try to wait it out until it comes around to score big discounts. Some retailers that I shop at that I know have sales around the same times each year are Sephora and Shopbop. If there’s something I want to purchase and that time is coming around, I’ll usually try to wait until the sale comes up.
Finally, Shoptagr is a great tool to help you find out when items go on sale. I’ve only used it a few times, but I really should put it to use more often! You find the item you want to purchase, and you can sign up for notifications if it goes on sale.
I hope you found these tips useful!
